Sweet Soy, garlic and onions is one I have been using a lot lately.
You could omit the soy sauce.
Personally, I like using vinegar, garlic powder, barbecue sauce, pepper, and onions, add soy sauce if you want but don't have to. Marinate for 24 hrs.
I enjoy making my own marinates and rubs. They are relatively easy to do. For a rub which I suggest is really what spices you like but here is my basic one and it will be very tasty. If it isn't enough you can always make more and use it ok.
3 T of garlic powder, onion powder
2 t of chili powder (fine)
2T of seasoned meat tenderizer
1-2 t black pepper
2 t parsley flakes (optional and I usually rub them in my hands to make them real fine)
Liberally rub all over your meat and then put in pan and cover with foil paper and bake on a low heat like 250-300 degrees til tender but you can add other spices if you choose to. add BBQ sauce the last 40 minutes of baking...enjoy!!!
mix hoisin sauce and char siu sauce with a little salt. mix, marinade, grill. this is how its done in chinese takeaways.
