Game companies need money to survive.They will not make games where you need quad cores because 90% of them are dual core.I'd say like 75% of a companies business is from casual gamers.Casual gamers won't splurge and spend 2 grand on a gaming computer.
This will only change if quad core processors become just as cheap as dual core.
I think it is going to be awhile until Quad core is supported. It will probably be until about Fall of 2011 that quad core is supported on most games. To answer directly, about 3 years.

ermm i dunno but i bet it will be in new games not old maybe in 2009 :) Too bad u use quad :P
