say i have a 320kbps mp3, that i want to compress to 128kbps, what will happen if i will put it back to its original bitrate of 320kpbs, does during the conversion from 320->128 (well i know, i did lose something) does bringing it back to 320 brings back what what lost?

What is lost in compression, is lost. But you can avoid to loose on conversion with a loseless algorithm. Search for "Apple loseless" and you should be able to find a free codec.
It's just as Onetrip said. You can compress a file and it will lose information that cannot be restored even if trying to convert it back to a higher format.
