I am currently attempting to reinstall Windows vista home premium 32bit back onto my DELL inspiron 531, After booting from the dvd it did not work and gave me error code 0x8007045d. I did many things to try and fix the problem, after attempting to copy the disc to my computer i realised the it must have been the mysterious dots on the disc ( strange because i haven't taken it out the packet until today) as it told me it was unreadable. I have tyred everything to de-scratch the disc but not luck. Can i take it to game and have it fixed(how much will this cost, how effective is it), or if it still doesn't work will dell provide or microsoft provide me with a free Replacement (if they do apox how long do you think it will take to arrive).

You have a bad disk. Not uncommon. $hit happens.
Call Dell and have them replace it for you.
Call MS and find out what the story is.
Anothing thing: Completely format your disk. Reinstall Vista. See if it works. This is because, when you had vista, it automatically updated your software and the current disk is no longer the recent version. It does not recognize it as a good disk. To "fool" the computer, wiping the disk (format) clean and starting over will help.
Don't you have a factory default restore partition as drive d: (small partition) ? This restores the computer back to the way it came from the manufacturer.
Dell should take care of it for you.Go to their site and use the live chat,don't ever call them unless absolutely necessary.
Order a new disc from the website. I don't know if they will charge you for that but they will send you another one. If they do charge, it's just a few pounds.
