For scientific information, Physorg.com is pretty good at keeping people updated about all the newest advances and breakthroughs. Some articles that are bad science do appear on it, but the people scoring them will give them a low rating when that happens. And the community is pretty insightful with the comments posted more often than not.

For unbiased politics, there really is no such thing. I find it better to read the rhetoric of both sides, and check any claims of voting records yourself. Project Vote Smart is pretty good for that.
