I am in college now working towards an English/Philosophy major and Calssics minor and I am eventually going on to a teaching degree.
With school and work, I am not going to have time for extra curricular activities and I wanted to know if I will seem uninvolved or lazy or passed over for someone else because of this.

Interesting question. I was an english major for under-grad, got my masters in Philosophy and am currently working on my EdD. To be honest, I had worked since I was in grade school all the way through high school and college. (I had worked for my univiersity throughout my college career so it made it easy for me). But depending on where you apply and for what school/district you go into. Will all have different standards for employment. To be honest, if your current employment deals with education (in one way or another) than it could actually help you.
Just make sure that you can get some sort of relevant work experience, as an undergrad student, you should try to get an internship or job that will deal with whatever type of education you wish to pursue.
Employers in schools are more interested in a fit for their needs than extra curricular activities. You should be more worried about your major than your activities. These are not teaching majors that are in great need in secondary schools. To work in a community college you need a Masters and the competition if fierce for those jobs. Good luck!
