I know permanent magnets will lose charge overtime, is the same for electromagnets?
Permanent magnets do not discharge with time unless they are exposed to a magnetic field caused by some other magnets. Electromagnets stop working when the current is removed, but the magnetic core does not change with time.
They lose their pull when you turn off the current
