posi trac fluid YES or NO?
Posi trac fluid, Im hearing different things about posi trac fluid. I have a 01 cherokee and the rear diff is making noise. I have been told to change the gear oil and use the posi trac additive, and then someone else says the additive is just to help the clutch engage and disengage easier thus causing it to wear out faster. Could someone with knowledge on this matter help me out. Thanks!

Yes you need to add what is called (Friction Modifier) from the dealer if you have Trac-Lock or also called Posi Trac.
If a differential is making noise (I assume you have oil in it) it has nothing to do with the type of fluid...prob a bearing issue of some type.
just need gear oil really and to have it check or check it once a year maybe shops should check it every time oil is changed
